British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office has announced that Britain is deploying its air defence system in Kuwait following an overnight Iranian drone attack on a Kuwaiti oil facility.
During a conversation with the crown prince of Kuwait, Starmer discussed the deployment of Britain’s Rapid Sentry air defence system to the Gulf country.
The conversation came only hours after a drone struck the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery, one of the most important refineries in Kuwait and the wider region.
According to a press release from Starmer’s office, the Rapid Sentry system, designed primarily to shoot down drones and other low-flying aerial threats, will protect Kuwaiti and British personnel and interests in the region.
The British Prime Minister condemned the “reckless” overnight drone attack on a Kuwaiti oil refinery and reiterated Britain’s support for Kuwait and all its Gulf allies.
According to the state-owned Kuwait Petroleum Company (KPC), a Kuwaiti oil refinery was attacked by a drone in the early hours of 3 April, causing fires at several of its facilities. No casualties were reported.
The Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery is one of the most important refineriesPersian Gulf.
More than a month after US-Israeli strikes on Iran began, Tehran continues to launch drone and missile attacks on neighbouring Gulf states, targeting their energy facilities.
