Following the signing, both sides undertake to agree on a final settlement within 60 days, which includes restrictions on Iran’s nuclear programme and the lifting of US sanctions against the Islamic Republic, US officials said.
“This is, in essence, an agreement that allows us to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz, obliges the Iranians to dismantle their nuclear arsenal, and then gives us a chance,” said one senior US official.
The day before, Trump had stated that he was prepared to “bomb” Iran if it breached the agreement.
