The United States has conducted the first tests of the ‘Golden Dome’ missile defence system.
“Today, the first test of the ‘Golden Dome for America’ project was a complete success, and it was an honour for me to witness it in person,” wrote US Secretary of War Pete Hagsett on social media.
The head of the Department of Defence and the Pentagon’s Chief Technical Officer, Emil Michael, attended a demonstration of laser and microwave weapons in New Mexico.
‘Golden Dome’ is designed to create a network of hundreds of satellites to detect, track and intercept missiles approaching US airspace. This ambitious US programme is designed to counter threats from China and Russia.
The idea for the ‘Golden Dome’ was inspired by Israel’s ‘Iron Dome’ missile defence system.
