The trial of three people with dual citizenship of Germany and Russia has started in Munich – they are accused of spying in favour of Moscow and preparing sabotage on the territory of Germany, international media reported on 20 May.
The main defendant in the case is Dieter S., who, according to the German prosecutor’s office, planned attacks on strategic facilities, in particular, US military bases in Germany, industrial enterprises and railway tracks that transport military aid to Ukraine.
According to the investigation, Dieter S. Since October 2023, Dieter passed information about potential targets to the Russian security services and declared his readiness to carry out bombings and arson attacks. Earlier, according to the investigation, he fought on the side of the armed group “DNR” and then established contact with an agent of Russian intelligence.
Together with Dieter S. In the dock were Alexander Y. and Alex D., who, according to the investigation, since March 2024, helped him in the preparation of actions. Alexander Y. and Alex D. partially admitted guilt, but deny espionage. Dieter S. denies all charges.
Since 2022, Germany has stepped up security measures due to attempts of sabotage by Russia. Last week, German law enforcers detained three Ukrainian citizens suspected of preparing explosions on freight transport routes. It was also reported earlier that Moscow was probably involved in a series of parcel bombings at DHL logistics facilities in Germany and the UK.
