Trump to begin three-day visit to China on 31 March – White House

US President Donald Trump will pay a three-day visit to China. It will begin on 31 March, a White House official confirmed on 20 February.

Further details were not disclosed, but the visit, which will end on 2 April, is expected to focus largely on trade talks between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Earlier on 20 January, the US Supreme Court ruled that President Trump did not have the authority to impose international duties. According to the decision, the duties exceeded the authority granted to the president by Congress under a 1977 law. This law allows the president to regulate trade during national emergencies caused by foreign threats.

Duties are one of the main tools Trump has used to force foreign nations into new trade agreements with the United States.
