In Poland, two Belarusians who had previously been detained in connection with the murder of the Russian artist and performance artist Semyon Skrepetsky have been released from custody. Marcin Kozak, a spokesperson for the district prosecutor’s office in Lublin, informed Polish journalists of this. According to him, the detainees were found to have no involvement in the incident. They were questioned as witnesses and released.
Kozak noted that “a great deal of evidence has been gathered” in the case; the analysis of witness statements and CCTV footage is currently ongoing, and the results of the post-mortem have not yet been received.
The spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office added that the investigation has several theories regarding Skrepetsky’s murder, but he would not disclose any details publicly.
Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the murder of the Russian artist in Poland as a political assassination. He noted that if the order for this had been given in Russia, it would constitute state terrorism.
The death of Semen Skrepetsky (real name Robert Kuzovkov) came to light on 15 June. Polish media reported that an unknown assailant had shot the man several times in a car park in Biała Podlaska. Subsequently, the police detained two suspects near the Belarusian consulate.
