Ukrainian delegation arrives in Washington, meetings with Trump team scheduled

A Ukrainian delegation headed by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yuliya Sviridenko has arrived in Washington, the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, who is also in the delegation, has said.

According to him, there will be “quite a few meetings” with representatives of both parties that support Ukraine, US President Donald Trump’s team.

“We will actively promote important issues for Ukraine. Our agenda is quite comprehensive. We plan to talk about defence support and the situation on the battlefield, tougher sanctions against Russia, in particular Senator Graham’s bill. We will also discuss the agreement on the creation of the Investment Fund for Reconstruction, which we signed earlier. Also on the issue of Russia’s return of deported Ukrainian children and its support for that process. We will also discuss Russian propaganda related to church issues,” Yermak wrote in a telegram.

According to him, the Ukrainian delegation will also talk about the results of meetings with the Russian delegation in Istanbul and how “Russia is dragging out the time with the ceasefire and negotiations for the sake of war.”

Yermak added that the delegation also includes a team from the Defence Ministry and the president’s office.

The Russian delegation only handed its memorandum to Ukraine at the Istanbul talks on 2 June and Kiev will now study Russian proposals for a ceasefire.

Ukraine insists on an unconditional ceasefire. This is also insisted on by the USA, which is the initiator of the talks between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. Moscow does not agree to this.

United States President Donald Trump said on 28 May that he “will have an answer in a fortnight” whether Russian leader Putin really wants to end the war in Ukraine.

Trump opined that the Russian side “wants to do something”, but he will not have a concrete answer until the agreement is signed.
