Ukraine increased exports of processed pig iron in physical terms by 45.2% year-on-year in January-May this year to 736,418,000 tonnes from 507,106,000 tonnes.
According to statistics released by the State Customs Service (SCS) on Friday, pig iron exports in monetary terms rose by 53.2 per cent to $290.546 million over the period.
At the same time, exports were mainly to the United States (79.11% of shipments in monetary terms), Italy (10.23%) and Turkey (5.90%).
In the first 5 months of the year, the country imported 29,000 tonnes worth $55,000 from Brazil (68.52%) and Germany(31.48%), while 15 tonnes of pig iron worth $35,000 were imported in Jan-May 2024.
As reported, since 12 March this year, according to the decision of President Donald Trump, the U.S. began to levy a 25% duty on imports of Ukrainian steel products, except pig iron.
Ukraine in 2024 reduced exports of processed pig iron in physical terms by 3.4% compared to 2023 – to 1 million 290.622 thousand tonnes, in monetary terms by 6.1% – to $500.341 million. Exports were carried out mainly to the United States (72.64% of supplies in monetary terms), Turkey (8.03%) and Italy (7.30%).
For the full year 2024, the country imported 38 tonnes of pig iron worth $90k from Germany, while it imported 154 tonnes of pig iron worth $156k in the same period of 2023.
