US and UK announce trade agreement-first since ‘America’s Liberation Day’

The United States and the United Kingdom have concluded a trade agreement. The United States President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced this during a hands-free phone call on 8 May, which was broadcast to the media.

Trump and Starmer called the deal “unbelievable”. According to the US president, the details of the deal will be finalised in the coming weeks.

According to the NYT, the agreement could see the UK, among other things, lower prices on US cars and agricultural goods, as well as waive taxes for US technology companies.

The agreements between the US and UK are the first since Trump announced “America’s Liberation Day” on 2 April – raising duties on goods from virtually every country in the world. After numerous offers to negotiate, Trump delayed the imposition of increased tariffs for 90 days for some countries.
