The United States has nominated an American general as the new commander-in-chief of NATO forces in Europe.
The nomination of US Air Force General Alexus Hrynkiewicz was put forward by President Donald Trump and endorsed by 32 NATO allies, the US Defence Department and NATO said in statements.
The appointment, which must now be confirmed by the US Senate, came after Washington warned it could redeploy forces from Europe.
In addition to his NATO post, Lieutenant General Hrynkiewicz will be named commander of US European Command.
