The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s security forum now has a “great responsibility” to protect regional peace and stability, Chinese leader Xi Jinping has said.
Xi Jinping made these remarks at a banquet to welcome foreign guests travelling to the port city of Tianjin to attend the summit, China’s state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Earlier it was reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in China on a four-day visit.
The summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will last in the city of Tianjin from August 31 to September 1. Later on September 3, Beijing will host a large-scale military parade to commemorate China’s victory in the Japanese-Chinese and World War II wars is scheduled to take place in Tiananmen Square in downtown Beijing.
