After talking to Zelensky, Starmer declared his support for Ukraine

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has voiced support for Ukraine after speaking to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“It was wonderful to speak to Volodymyr Zelensky. The UK is increasing pressure on Russia – those who fund Putin’s war machine shouldn’t have anywhere to hide. We are always with Ukraine,” he wrote on social network X.

The British government added that Starmer and Zelensky agreed to move forward with the next phase of military support, adding that a strong Ukraine was essential to ensure peace in the long term. They agreed to convene the next meeting of a “coalition of the willing” in the coming weeks.

Zelensky said that during his meeting with Starmer they discussed that sanctions against its energy, banking sector, shadow navy and military-industrial complex coordinated with all G7 countries are needed to force Russia to end this war.

On 17 June, the UK added six more entities and four individuals to the Russia-related sanctions list.

The list includes, in particular, Yuri and Egor Karasev, who are linked to the Russian banking sector. Among the companies sanctioned because of their “strategic importance for the Russian government” are Metallurg company and Orion Star Group.
