Amazon.com Inc.will invest an additional 18 billion euros to expand and support data centres (DCs) in Spain, as well as promote AI developments, the company said.
In 2024, the company announced an investment of €15.7 billion to develop data centre infrastructure in Spain. Including the new plans, the total investment will be €33.7bn.
Amazon’s investment is expected to add €31.7bn to Spain’s GDP between now and the end of 2035 and support around 29,900 jobs.
In addition, the company plans to create supply chains in Spain’s Aragon that will directly support its data centre operations in the country and across Europe. This will create around 1,800 more jobs.
The project includes the construction of a server delivery and testing facility, warehousing facilities, and a specialised factory to manufacture and repair servers dedicated to SHI development and machine learning, Amazon said in a statement.
The company announced the new investment in Spain following a meeting between the country’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Amazon’s global relationship director David Zapolsky on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Amazon has invested more than €20bn in Spain since entering the country in 2011.
