Anti-government demonstrations have been taking place in Tirana for the fifth day running. Protesters are demanding the resignation of Edi Rama’s government. The Prime Minister has ruled out this possibility and accused the opposition of organising the unrest.
On 17 October, protesters clashed with police outside Rama’s office. According to the British newspaper The Independent, demonstrators threw stones and Molotov cocktails at the police. In response, the police used tear gas, water cannons and batons. The clashes later spread throughout the city centre.
