US Apple Inc. has unveiled a new proprietary M5 chip and integrated it into iPad Pro tablets, Vision Pro mixed reality helmets and MacBook Pro laptops with a 14-inch display.
The M5 uses a 3nm process, has a ten-core GPU with an AI accelerator in each core, and a more powerful CPU compared to the previous-generation M4 chip, the company said in a press release. The maximum processing power of the M5 GPU is more than four times that of the M4 in the context of solving AI tasks.
Pre-orders for the new iPad Pro, Vision Pro, MacBook Pro with M5 are already open, and they will go on sale on 22 October.
The tablet and laptop have not undergone significant changes in appearance, and the helmet has a changed strap.
The cost of the devices has remained the same. The starting price for the iPad Pro with 11-inch screen is $999, with 13 – inch – $1,299 thousand, Vision Pro – $3,499 thousand, MacBook Pro – $1,599 thousand.
Apple shares were up 0.7 per cent in Wednesday trading.
