Romania was hit by a powerful cyclone, causing power outages, fallen trees, flooded streets and traffic in many parts of the country.
In Brasov County, thousands of people have been without electricity since Friday, 3 October, after wind and wet snow fell dozens of trees on power lines. The mountain resorts of Bran, Fundata and Moechiu were without power. Emergency crews are working on the spot.
In Bucharest and Ilfova, rescuers made more than 350 visits – due to fallen trees, building elements were destroyed, cables were damaged and waterlogging was recorded.
In Constanta, after heavy rains, part of the streets were under water, the level of waterlogging reached half a metre. Some drivers were stuck in flooded cars. Strong winds on the coast reached 80 km/h, all Black Sea ports were temporarily closed.
An emergency situation also arose in the mountains: four tourists from Poland got lost in the area on the border of Hunedoara, Vilcea and Alba counties at an altitude of about 2000 metres. They were rescued after a five-hour search operation involving law enforcers and rescuers.
InSibiu County, a tree fell on a car and injured a 29-year-old man. The victim was hospitalised with head injuries.
According to forecasters, cold and windy weather is expected to continue for several days, with a return to seasonal temperatures expected only next week.
