Britain expands sanctions list against Russia

The UK has imposed sanctions against 24 individuals and organisations as part of its sanctions regime against Russia. This is evidenced by the message of the government, published on Thursday.

The restrictions were applied to six people and 19 companies, in particular Russian oil companies Tatneft and Russneft.

Their assets are reportedly frozen.

In October, the UK imposed sanctions aimed at Russia’s energy sector. The restrictions affected the largest oil companies, their global partners and the “shadow fleet” transporting Russian oil. In particular, two of the largest energy companies of the Russian Federation – Rosneft and Lukoil – fell under the sanctions.

Also in October, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil.

Oil and gas revenues are one of the main sources of revenue for the Russian budget. According to Reuters calculations, in December, revenues of the Russian state-owned energy sector may almost halve year-on-year due to lower crude oil prices and a stronger ruble.
