Thanks to Android’s open architecture, there are many digital assistants available on devices on this platform. However, most of them have limitations – you can’t assign them as the default assistant. Therefore, when comparing Google Gemini and ChatGPT on Android, Gemini has an advantage: it can be invoked much faster. ChatGPT can now also be made the default assistant.
In the beta version v1.2025. 070 for Android, users can now set ChatGPT as the default assistant on their device. This allows it to be invoked with the same buttons and gestures previously used for Gemini.
When set as the default assistant, ChatGPT can be launched by long-pressing the Home button (If using three-button navigation) or swiping up from the bottom corner (if gesture navigation is enabled). You can also launch it by long-pressing the power button, if this feature is enabled in the settings. Calling ChatGPT in this way launches the voice mode.
Even after being set as the default assistant, ChatGPT cannot be invoked with a voice command. This requires privileged APIs that are only available to trusted installed applications. Nevertheless, this is good news for ChatGPT fans on Android because now it will be more convenient to use.
