China increased electricity generation by 7.9%

The volume of electricity produced in China in October increased by 7.9% year-on-year to 800.2 billion kWh, according to the State Statistics Office.

This is the highest figure for this month since at least 1998.

Generation at thermal power plants rose 7.3 per cent to 513.8 billion kWh, also a record since the 1990s.

Electricity generation from hydropower plants increased by 28.2 per cent and from solar power plants by 5.9 per cent, while wind farms decreased by 12 per cent.

In 2024, China’s electricity output grew by 4.6% to a record 9.418 trillion kWh.
