Danish AP Moller – Maersk said it is suspending all passages of its vessels through the Strait of Hormuz “until further notice” and warned of possible delays, changes to routes and schedules of services entering ports in the Arabian Gulf.
The decision comes amid a sharp deterioration in the region and growing threats to commercial shipping. Reuters reported that Maersk had also suspended voyages through the Suez Canal and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, diverting ships around the Cape of Good Hope.
Maersk is one of the world’s largest container carriers and a port terminal operator. According to industry statistics based on Alphaliner, Maersk’s share of the global container fleet in 2024 was about 14 per cent.
