Erdogan is ready to organise summit of leaders of Ukraine, USA, Russia and Turkey – Zelenskiy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which the sides discussed the current diplomatic situation and the opportunities it now offers.

“President Erdogan confirmed his country’s readiness to organise a summit of the leaders of Ukraine, the United States, Russia and Turkey,” Zelensky wrote in Telegram on Tuesday.

According to him, Erdogan said that any negotiations without Ukraine would not bring stable peace.

“Equally understand all the risks and threats. A simulated peace, not an honest peace, will definitely not hold for long and will encourage Russia to seize more territories. I noted that we are ready for any format of meeting in order to stop the killings and end the war,” the President of Ukraine added.

The sides also discussed the events at the highest level that Ukraine is preparing during the UN General Assembly and Turkey’s participation in them.

According to the page of the Turkish presidency in X, during the conversation, which took place at the request of the Ukrainian side, bilateral relations between Turkey and Ukraine, as well as regional and global issues were discussed.

“Recognising the valuable progress made in the direct talks in Istanbul between Ukraine and Russia, President Erdogan expressed his wish for meaningful results in subsequent rounds for a ceasefire on the way to a lasting peace. Noting that Turkey is ready to host the summit at the leaders’ level, President Erdogan expressed his belief that the establishment of working groups in the military, humanitarian and political spheres will pave the way for the summit,” the statement said.

Erdogan also emphasised that Turkey continues to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

As reported, last Friday, US President Donald Trump announced that his meeting with Vladimir Putin will be held on 15 August in Alaska.
