FDI into the Azerbaijani economy rose by 13.8 per cent in the first half of the year

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Azerbaijan’s economy in January–June 2026 totalled $3.67 billion, which is 13.8 per cent more than in the same period last year, according to the quarterly balance of payments data published on the website of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

The top five countries in terms of investment in Azerbaijan’s economy at the end of the first quarter were: the United Kingdom – $936.37 million (up 16.1% – IF), Turkey – $902.69 million (up 43.6%), Cyprus – $411.14 million (up 16.3 per cent), Russia – $237.12 million (up 1.8-fold, share – 6.5 per cent), Iran – $203.81 million (up 15.8 per cent).

According to Azerbaijan’s balance of payments data, 76.1 per cent of FDI was invested in the oil and gas sector (compared with 77.2 per cent a year earlier).

The Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) notes that foreign direct investment by Azerbaijani residents abroad for January–June 2026 totalled $5 billion (a 3.7-fold increase).

Azerbaijani investors invested the most in Italy – $3.25 billion (an increase of almost 310 times). Investments in the Turkish economy totalled $603.77 million (a 3.4-fold increase), in the UK – $329.2 million (a 5.1-fold increase), the UAE – $270.08 million (a 1.7-fold increase), and Georgia – $113.96 million (a 1.5-fold increase).

Azerbaijani FDI in Russia fell by 20.6 per cent during the reporting period, to $22.49 million.

Foreign direct investment in the Azerbaijani economy in 2025 amounted to $6.6 billion (a 6.4 per cent decrease compared with the previous year), whilst investment by Azerbaijani residents abroad stood at $2.53 billion (an increase of 43.4 per cent).
