Google has officially unveiled its most affordable smartphone of the new line-up-Pixel 9a. The novelty is built on Google’s fresh Tensor G4 processor with Titan M2 security coprocessor, has an increased battery capacity and new camera features. The smartphone meets the IP68 standard for protection against dust and water.
The design of the Pixel 9a is similar to older models of the Pixel 9 series.The screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 glass with flat edges and an aluminium frame. The back panel is polycarbonate, flat, without rounding like the Pixel 8A. The device comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage.
The smartphone gets a 6.3-inch pOLED display with a resolution of 2424×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The screen has a maximum brightness of 1800 cd/m2 (HDR), Peak brightness is up to 2700 cd/m2. HDR is supported, but only with 8-bit colour depth. There is an optical fingerprint scanner under the display.
The cameras of the Pixel 9a have undergone changes. The 48MP main camera with autofocus, ƒ/1.7 aperture and optical stabilisation supports 4K video recording at up to 60fps. Additionally, there is a 13MP wide-angle camera with ƒ/2.2 aperture. The 13MP front camera shoots 4K video at 30fps. New modes added are macro and astrophotography.

The Pixel 9a runs Android 15 right out of the box and supports Google’s new AI features. The smartphone will receive OS and security updates for seven years.
The 5,100mAh battery offers up to 30 hours of battery life, a record among all Pixel smartphones. It supports 23W fast charging and Qi wireless charging.
The device comes in four colours: Obsidian (black), Porcelain (white), Peony (pink) and Iris (purple). Pixel 9a price starts at $499 and sales will start in April.
