At the I/O 2025 conference, Google presented a detailed review of smart glasses on the Android XR platform. The company spoke in detail about the capabilities of such devices, emphasising on useful functions for everyday life.
Gadgets on Android XR will be equipped with a camera, microphones and speakers, as well as a display in the lenses as an option. The glasses will be able to work in conjunction with the user’s smartphone, giving them quick access to the functions of various apps without having to take the main gadget out of their pocket.
Gemeni artificial intelligence will be able to “see and hear” the user, as well as remember his habits and provide the necessary information in time. Among the supported services are “Google Calendar”, “Google Maps”, “Google Messages”, “Google Photos”, “translator” and others.
In addition to Google, companies such as Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, as well as Samsung, are also involved in the creation of Android XR. The partnership with the latter is aimed at creating a software and hardware platform that will allow other brands to develop their own versions of such devices. It is noted that developers will be able to work with this platform in the second half of the year.
Google is currently testing prototypes of the glasses and collecting feedback. Already known some details about the new accessory XREAL-smart device will resemble massive sunglasses. With its help, users will be able to work with Android applications, including those that were created only for the XR platform. Announcement dates and detailed specifications of the gadget have not been announced yet.
