Gordian Day is celebrated on 3 January: Why you can’t wish happiness and health on this holiday

Gordaeus was born and raised in a Christian family of Caesarea in the 3rd century. At a mature age he decided to follow the path of the military, achieved success, showed courage more than once, and for his efforts he received the rank of centurion. But with the beginning of persecution of Christians he left the military service and devoted himself to the service of Christ.

Gordaeus lived in the desert, prepared to glorify the name of Christ, but later returned to his homeland and stood up in defence of the Christians. Because of this, he was imprisoned, tortured for a long time and beheaded.

In the people the holiday was called Gordian Day. On this day, according to ancient beliefs, wandering unclean force, which could harm people and animals.

Therefore, to protect the cattle from evil, our ancestors fed the animals with specially cooked porridge. Also over the gate tied an amulet – a tallow candle.

On this day often cooked a variety of dishes made of cheese . Believed that it will attract good luck to the house and strengthen health.
