Honor is preparing Magic V5 with less than 9mm thickness and 5950 mAh battery

The foldable smartphone industry seems to be in a real race, with many manufacturers vying for the title of thinnest device in 2025. Honor CEO Lee Kun ambitiously stated, “Honor will still be the lightest and thinnest.” We’re talking about the upcoming Honor Magic V5-although the company will skip the number 4 in the name.

What is known so far? It is officially confirmed that the Magic V5 will premiere by the end of next month. But unofficial sources have revealed that the device could be as thin as 8.x mm when folded. For comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7, according to Ice Universe, will be 8.9mm thick, while the previous Magic V3 will be 9.2mm thick. Hence, the difference between the competitors will be minimal, but in the world of ultra-thin gadgets, it could be crucial.

The Honor Magic V5 (model number MBH-AN10) has already lit up the TENAA database with a 5,950mAh battery, which is a significant improvement over the Magic V3’s 5,150mAh. Support for 66W fast charging has also been confirmed.

On the technical side, the device will get the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chip (8-core configuration), which will provide top-end performance. According to preliminary reports, the Magic V5 will be available in two colours:

  • Silk Road Dunhuang (warm, natural shade)
  • Velvet Black (classic black)

Also mentioned among the potential features is support for BeiDou satellite communication, which could be an added advantage for travellers and users in remote areas.

And while Honor has yet to announce a major unveiling for the coming weeks, it’s likely that the Magic V5 will debut as early as June, while Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 is expected in July.

It looks like we’re in for an intense battle among foldable flagships in the second half of 2025 – and Honor is well positioned to lead the way in the “thin and light” category.
