Tragedy has struck Saudi Arabia once again: Riyadh International Airport has been the target of yet another attack. According to reports from the country’s authorities, one person was killed and a further 11 were injured as a result of the incident. This occurred the day after another attack, in which 13 people were killed and more than 300 were injured. The Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have claimed responsibility for these attacks.
The latest events unfolded on 11 October, when an unidentified projectile struck Terminal 4 of King Khalid International Airport, causing a fire. The following day, the Saudi-led coalition reported that it had intercepted a cruise missile over the same airport. In addition, coalition forces thwarted a drone attack in the eastern part of the country and intercepted a ballistic missile targeting the town of Khamis Mushait.
Yemeni Houthi rebels have stepped up their attacks on Saudi Arabia in recent months, targeting airports in particular. This is the fourth strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh in the past week. The Houthis continue to fight against the Saudi-backed Yemeni government.
In light of rising tensions and security threats, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) advises American airlines to exercise caution when flying to Saudi Arabia and within its airspace. These warnings relate to possible military action and the risk of interference with navigation systems.
The conflict in the region has become a reflection of a wider confrontation, involving the US and Israel against Iran, which began in February. US President Donald Trump recently stated that America is considering joining strikes against Houthi positions, although a final decision has not yet been taken. The situation is escalating, and the world is watching developments with concern.
