In the Northern Capital of Russia, migrants are banned from driving taxis

The Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov has banned migrants from driving taxis in the city, the ban is valid until the end of 2025. This is reported by the local edition “Fontanka” with reference to the press service of the city authorities.

It is specified that the decision is aimed at “improving the quality and safety of services in the taxi industry and creating additional employment opportunities for citizens of the Russian Federation”.

The resolution will come into force in 10 days.

For employers there is a three-month transition period, during which they must complete labour relations with foreign citizens and attract new employees.

The Committee for Labour and Employment will have to assess “the impact of the ban on the social and economic life of St. Petersburg” and submit proposals to Beglov on whether it should be extended next year.
