India: at least eight people killed in Delhi blast

A car bomb exploded near the Red Fort metro station and the historic citadel of the same name in Indian Delhi, local and international media reported.

At least eight people were reportedly killed and about 20 others were injured.

The explosion occurred on Monday evening. According to media reports, it was so powerful that it blew out the windows of cars parked several metres away. Some cars got busy.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known. A state of high alert has been declared in the city.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to those who lost loved ones and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
