Iran has handed over a 14-point peace plan. Trump responded

The plan for cessation of hostilities, handed over by the Iranian authorities to the US presidential administration through Pakistani mediators, consists of 14 points. According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, among the demands Tehran is putting forward are:

  • Non-aggression guarantees;
  • Withdrawal of US troops from the Middle East;
  • Lifting of the naval blockade;
  • Unfreezing of Iranian assets;
  • Payment of reparations;
  • Lifting of sanctions;
  • Ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon;
  • Establishment of a new mechanism for the functioning of the Strait of Hormuz.

The Axios publication quoted sources as saying that Tehran’s plan sets a one-month deadline for negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, end the US naval blockade and finally end the war.

After an agreement is reached, another one-month negotiation on Iran’s nuclear programme is scheduled, the publication’s interlocutors said.

US President Donald Trump has already reacted tentatively to Tehran’s proposals.

“I will soon familiarise myself with the plan that Iran has just sent us, but I can’t imagine it being acceptable as Iran has yet to pay a high enough price for what it has done to humanity and the world over the past 47 years”, he wrote on his Truth Social network.

A truce has been in place between Iran and the US since early April. But talks between the sides have stalled: they have been unable to agree on any significant issue in the conflict, including Iran’s nuclear programme and free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
