Iran launches rocket attack on Dimona and in Israel: more than 40 wounded

An Iranian ballistic missile has hit a residential building in the southern Israeli town of Dimona, injuring dozens of people, Israel’s emergency services said.

The latest reports put the number of injured at more than 40. Among them is a 10-year-old boy who suffered moderate injuries from the debris.

Iranian state broadcaster IRIB said the strike targeted nuclear infrastructure facilities in the city. It also called the attack a “response to a previous Israeli strike” on the Natang nuclear facility.

This is at least the second attack on Natanz since the armed standoff between Israel, the US and Iran began in late February.

Following the incident, International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Raphael Grossi called on the parties to exercise “military restraint” to prevent a nuclear accident.

Iran has continued to retaliate by launching missiles at Israel and the Gulf States. Late in the evening of March 19, air defences intercepted projectiles over Jerusalem, while the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia reported attacks on energy and military targets early in the day on March 20.

Tehran warned it would show “zero restraint” in the event of further strikes on its infrastructure.

Fighting also escalated in Lebanon, where local officials say Israeli strikes have already killed more than 1,000 people, prompting renewed calls for a truce.

Following Netanyahu’s comments, the price of oil fell more than two per cent, AFP reported.

Israel and the US have been striking Iran since 28 February. US President Donald Trump said the goal of this war-destroying Iran’s military capabilities and preventing Tehran from developing nuclear weapons-was the goal. Iran has been striking Israel and countries in the region that co-operate with the US.
