The Israeli government has approved the appointment of a new ambassador to Ukraine. The diplomatic mission in Kiev will be headed by Roi Rosenblit.
The relevant decision was taken on 23 November on the proposal of Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
Rosenblit will replace Mikhail Brodsky, whose term of office is coming to an end. Brodsky has served as ambassador since 2021 and will receive a new appointment.
Rosenblit previously served as a part-time ambassador to the Pacific and headed Israel’s diplomatic mission in Senegal. He was also a counsellor at the Israeli embassies in Moscow and Cairo.
The newly appointed ambassador was born in Kibbuk Ginegar, later the family moved to Har Gilo near Jerusalem. He graduated from Hebrew University, where he studied linguistics, Arabic language and literature, and public policy. After serving in the IDF, he entered the Foreign Ministry’s diplomatic course in 1994 and worked on Middle East issues, including Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States and Yemen. He later served in the Muscat mission, the embassy in Moscow and the Foreign Ministry’s economic department.
On the same day, the government appointed a new Israeli Consul General in Hong Kong, Eduard Shapira. He will also serve as non-resident consul in Macau. Shapira previously served as ambassador to Uzbekistan and Belarus, and headed consulates general in Shanghai and St. Petersburg.
