Jaguar Land Rover to cut up to 500 positions in Britain due to US duties

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) plans to cut up to 500 management positions in the UK amid the negative impact of US-imposed import duties.

According to a press release from the carmaker, the cuts will amount to no more than 1.5 per cent of the total headcount in the country and are “normal business practice”.

JLR is one of the largest employers in the British automotive sector, employing more than 30,000 people.

Washington has imposed duties on car shipments from the UK in the amount of 10%. Prior to that, the tariff was 2.5%. At the same time, one of the most popular models of JLR, Land Rover Defender, is produced in Slovakia and will be subject to a duty of 27.5%, notes BBC.
