The Kremlin hopes that Russian President Vladimir Putin will be able to discuss US President Donald Trump’s recent visit to China with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during his upcoming visit to China.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that details of Putin’s visit to China, which he said would take place “very soon,” have been agreed upon and will be announced soon.
Peskov said Putin and Xi will focus on bilateral ties amid significant trade volumes and will also discuss international issues.
Media recently reported about Putin’s possible one-day visit to China on 20 May.
On 15 May, US President Donald Trump left Beijing after a two-day summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Beijing claimed that during the meeting, the two leaders “exchanged views on major international and regional issues such as the situation in the Middle East, the crisis in Ukraine and the Korean Peninsula.”
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, China has publicly declared a neutral stance and urged the sides to negotiate. Despite this, there are regular statements from Western countries that Beijing supports the Russian military-industrial complex. In particular, the Estonian intelligence agency claimed that China is helping Russia in the production of military drones by supplying critical Western components. According to its report, Russia receives about 80 per cent of such components from China.
