Kuwait has announced that its air defence forces intercepted and neutralised Iranian drones which attacked the country’s “vital and military facilities” on 31 July.
“The enemy targets were attacked and destroyed. This resulted in material damage from shrapnel, but no casualties were reported,” said a statement from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defence.
Earlier, on 31 July, the Iranian military announced drone attacks on Kuwait. The army described the attack as a response to US strikes on Iran on 29 July, including an attack on a residential area on the island of Qeshm, which, according to Iranian officials, killed three civilians, including a child.
US bases in Kuwait were one of Iran’s main targets in its latest series of strikes and have been subjected to almost daily missile and drone attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Iranian military.
The strikes come against the backdrop of a brief lull in hostilities between the United States and Iran, following 13 consecutive nights of US military strikes on targets, predominantly in the south of the country. In response, Iran fired missiles and drones at what it described as American targets in the Persian Gulf region.
