French President Emmanuel Macron has rejected US President Donald Trump’s idea of Russia mediating the crisis between Israel and Iran.
“I don’t believe that Russia, which is now involved in a high-intensity conflict and has decided for several years now not to respect the UN Charter, can be a mediator,” Macron said during his visit to Greenland.
In an interview with ABC News on Sunday, Trump said he was open to Putin acting as a mediator between Israel and Iran.
United States President Donald Trump said on 14 June that Putin called to “very kindly wish me a happy birthday (Trump turned 79 on 14 June – ed.), but more importantly to talk about Iran”.
According to Trump, much less time was devoted to the topic of Russia’s war against Ukraine during the conversation, but “that will be next week.”
Israel began airstrikes on Iranian territory on 13 June, attacking nuclear, military and energy facilities. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes against Israel.
