More than 30 people have died due to heavy rains and floods in China, the country’s state media Xinhua reported.

In particular, as of Monday, 28 deaths were known in the capital’s Miyun district, which was severely damaged, and two more in Yanqing district.

Also, according to state television CCTV, eight people were killed due to a landslide in Hebei province bordering Beijing, with another four missing.

Torrential rains around Beijing and neighbouring provinces that began over the weekend intensified on Monday. Some parts of the capital city received up to 543 millimetres of rainfall on Monday.

Beijing authorities have relocated more than 80,000 residents from the areas most affected by the flooding, Xinhua reported. At least 136 villages were left without electricity.
