US President Donald Trump will hold bilateral talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the G7 leaders’ summit in Canada, a White House official has confirmed to Reuters.
Earlier, a number of media outlets reported about this likely meeting.
Also, according to the official, Trump will meet with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The leaders of the Group of Seven countries have gathered for another summit where they are expected to discuss the situation in the Middle East and Russia’s war against Ukraine. However, Israeli and Iranian shelling and efforts to avoid escalation are likely to closely compete with the war in Ukraine for attention at the summit.
United States President Donald Trump said on 14 June that Putin called to “very kindly wish me a happy birthday (Trump turned 79 on 14 June – ed.), but more importantly to talk about Iran”.
According to Trump, much less time was devoted to the topic of Russia’s war against Ukraine during the conversation, but “that will be next week.”
