A suspect in the murder of a Minnesota official and her husband was arrested in the US on Sunday.
Vance Boelter, 57, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Boelter likely dressed as a police officer and then shot and killed Democratic State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark at their home in the early morning hours of Saturday, 14 June.
According to authorities, before the killings, Boelter also attacked two other people nearby, Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette, who survived and were hospitalised with serious injuries.
Boelter was captured in Sibley County, the rural area where the killings occurred. Police described the search as” the largest operation in state history,” with 20 SWAT teams and several agencies working to find him.
On Sunday, authorities found an abandoned vehicle used by Boelter in rural Sibley County, where he lived, and a police officer said he believed he saw Boelter flee into the woods. Police set up a large perimeter and called in 20 different tactical teams, dividing up the area and searching for her.
The suspect surrendered to police, crawling out to officers in the woods before being handcuffed and detained, authorities said.
A list of about 70 names was found in written notes recovered from the suspect’s vehicle left at the scene, said two law enforcement officials who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The officials said the notes and a list of names included prominent state and federal lawmakers, community leaders, and abortion rights advocates and information about medical facilities.
In the US state of Minnesota, a member of the state House of Representatives, Melissa Gortman, and her husband were shot dead by an unknown assailant on 14 June. Another legislator, state Senate member John Hoffman, was wounded.
US President Donald Trump called the incident a “horrific act of violence”, saying the killing was apparently politically motivated. Justice Secretary Pam Bondi made the same assessment.
