Midlife crisis: study reveals at what age we are least happy

According to the study, the lowest point of life satisfaction is between the ages of 47-48. This is the period commonly referred to as the midlife crisis.

The main reasons why people feel unhappy at this particular age are:

realisation of old age

A person takes stock of life, begins to feel disillusioned and loses satisfaction with things that used to bring joy.

Financial and career issues

There is often dissatisfaction with one’s financial situation or lack of prospects at work.

Breakdown of social ties

Divorce and reduced communication with loved ones can significantly affect happiness levels.

physiological changes

Decreases in testosterone levels in men and estrogen levels in women also affect psycho-emotional well-being.

Nevertheless, the study offers hope. “The happiness curve starts to rise again after the age of 48. The happiest periods of life, according to the scientist’s calculations, are 20 and 70 years.

With age, the priorities change: material wealth and career move to the background, giving way to family, loved ones, favourite hobbies and recreation. A person becomes wiser and, as a consequence, happier.
