The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement regarding the US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
“Russia strongly condemns the US dawn strikes on a number of nuclear facilities in Iran on 22 June, which followed Israeli attacks on the Islamic Republic,” the Russian Foreign Ministry’s press service said in a statement.
Russian diplomats said the missile and bomb strikes on the territory of a sovereign state flagrantly violate international law and the UN Charter, “no matter what arguments accompany them.”
The ministry called on the IAEA and UN Security Council leadership to respond to the strikes.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will arrive in Moscow on Monday, 23 June. “I am travelling to Moscow this afternoon and will hold serious consultations with the Russian president tomorrow morning,” Araghchi told a news conference in Istanbul.
The US military attacked three key sites of Iran’s nuclear programme – Fordow, Natang and Isfahan – on the night of June 22. Iranian authorities confirmed the attacks on the sites and said the Fordow facility had been evacuated because of the high probability of strikes. There is no independent confirmation yet of the extent of the destruction at Iran’s nuclear facilities following the strike.
