Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has missed the weekly cabinet meeting and will work from home for at least three days due to ill health, his office said in a statement issued after media reports of the prime minister’s absence from this morning’s Cabinet meeting.
According to the prime minister’s office, Netanyahu became ill during the night. He was examined by doctor Alon Hershko, head of the internal medicine department at Adassa Ein Kerem Medical Centre. The doctor diagnosed the 75-year-old politician with intestinal inflammation caused by eating spoilt food.
According to the official report, after additional examinations, Netanyahu’s condition was assessed as good. He is receiving intravenous infusions due to dehydration caused by the ailment. Doctors have recommended that the prime minister rest at home, from where he will temporarily manage state affairs.
Netanyahu has faced a number of health problems in recent years. He had his prostate removed in December 2023, and in March 2024 he underwent a hernia operation and was off work for several days due to the flu. In 2023, the politician underwent surgery to install a pacemaker after a temporary heart block. That’s when doctors first reported a long-standing problem with cardiac conduction.
According to the last published medical report in January 2023, the prime minister’s health was “completely normal, the pacemaker was working properly, and there was no evidence of arrhythmia or other cardiac abnormalities.”
