One simple rule that will prolong the life of your smartphone

The phone needs sleep too

Your smartphone runs continuously-24 hours a day. Even when you’re asleep, background apps continue to update, check security, and keep your system running. So if you just leave it in standby mode, it won’t give the device a real rest. A complete shutdown, as opposed to a reboot, really breaks all processes and gives the gadget a “breather”.

Increased data security

One of the main reasons to switch your phone off regularly is to protect your information. Hackers can use so-called “zero-click” attacks, where malware enters the device without user involvement. Such viruses are able to operate through system vulnerabilities, links or open applications.

Completely switching off the phone stops all active sessions in social networks and banking programmes, closes running processes and clears temporary files. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorised access. In addition, most viruses that work without the user’s touch will no longer be activated after a restart.

Improving the performance of the device

A smartphone that does not switch off for weeks, begins to work slower. Over time, temporary files accumulate in the cache, and unnecessary background processes “eat” resources. A simple shutdown or restart clears memory, frees up RAM and improves performance.

It also helps avoid battery overheating and reduces the number of charging cycles, which has a direct impact on battery life. It is especially useful to do this during the hot season, when the temperature additionally loads the technology.

How often you should switch off your phone

Experts advise to completely switch off the smartphone at least once a week. The minimum time is 5 minutes, but it is ideal to do it at night. A few hours of “full sleep” will give the device a chance to restore the system, and you – a chance to have a little rest from the screen.

Switching your phone off regularly is a simple habit that will extend the life of your gadget, improve its performance and keep your data safe. Even a few minutes of rest once a week can be a real “tech detox” for your smartphone.
