The Pentagon says the United States’ war with Iran cost about $29 billion, four billion dollars more than an estimate made two weeks earlier.
THIS figure was released during testimony by Secretary of Defence Pete Hagseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Kane and acting Pentagon finance chief Jules Gerst at a budget hearing in Washington on May 12.
Gerst said the increase reflects an updated estimate of repair and operations costs.
“The Joint Staff team and the financial control team are constantly reviewing that estimate,” Gerst said.
The data was released amid President Donald Trump’s Republicans facing increased scrutiny months before the midterm elections and Democrats linking the war to the rising cost of living.
