Peskov on truce: “we have an advantage, we are not going to lose it”

Russia does not intend to conclude a ceasefire with Ukraine as it has a “strategic advantage” in the war, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with the British broadcaster Sky News published on 20 June.

“Now we have a strategic advantage. Why should we lose it? We are not going to lose it. We are moving forward. We are advancing and will continue to advance,” Sky News quoted Peskov as saying.

At the same time, the Kremlin speaker noted that Russia could agree to a ceasefire if Western countries pledged to stop military supplies to Ukraine for the duration of the ceasefire. Asked whether Moscow was ready to make such commitments, Peskov said:

“A ceasefire is a ceasefire, you stop. But America doesn’t say, ‘We will stop all supplies,’ and neither do Britain and France. That’s the problem.”
