Poland remains Ukraine’s main food supplier for the seventh consecutive year

Ukraine has increased imports of agro-food products by 13% in 2025 compared to 2024 – up to $9.12bn, the National Scientific Centre “Institute of Agrarian Economics” (IAE) has reported, citing data from the State Customs Service.

According to the scientific institution, the EU member states retained the position of the main supplier and provided 53.9% of domestic imports of agro-food worth $4.91 billion.

According to the institution, EU member states maintained their position as the main supplier for the seventh consecutive year and accounted for 53.9% of domestic agri-food imports worth $4.91bn in 2025, with the value of EU shipments increasing by 15% against 2024.

Import figures from other regions were much lower, according to IAE. Food shipments from Asia totalled $1635m (17.9%), Latin America – $693m (7.6%) and Africa – $489m (5.4%). All of them last year also increased sales of agricultural products for the needs of the domestic market of Ukraine.

Since 2017, the first place in the ranking of major suppliers of agricultural products to Ukraine has been held by Poland, which in 2025 sold $1.15bn worth of agricultural goods, 24% higher than in 2024. The top ten exporters also included Germany ($692m), Turkey ($654m), Italy ($575m), the Netherlands ($417m), Norway ($338m), France ($317m), Spain ($314m), China ($264m) and the US ($235m). In total, these ten countries accounted for 54 per cent of all imports.

In the commodity structure of the purchase, 70% of the value was formed by fruits, berries and nuts ($1000 million), fish and seafood ($999 million), beverages ($870 million), cocoa products ($640 million), food products ($575 million), tobacco products ($493 million), feed ($476 million), coffee and tea ($471 million), vegetables ($467 million) and oilseeds ($418 million).

“The indicator of food imports to Ukraine in 2025 has become the largest in monetary terms in the time of its independence, increasing for the third year in a row amid the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on the territory of our state. Against the background of the general trend of increasing food prices, especially given the significant risks for specialised businesses in Ukraine, the cost of foreign purchases in 2026 is likely to remain high”, – summed up the leading researcher of IAE Bogdan Dukhnitsky.
