This holiday closes the period of autumn holidays and opens the winter holidays. In the past, from this day until the Annunciation, believers did not dig in the earth, because it was believed that it rests before summer.
On the day of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the Temple, it is customary to pray for God’s blessing for children. Childless couples ask for the gift of offspring. Pregnant women pray to the Virgin Mary for successful childbirth. This is connected with the Christian history of this holiday.
After all, the parents of Mary, Joachim and Anna could not have children for a long time and begged God to send them such a gift from heaven. In return, they promised to give the baby to the Temple in Jerusalem. And when it happened and their daughter Mary was born to them, as promised, she was taken to the Jerusalem temple, where the girl studied and lived until she became betrothed to Joseph. The day when the parents of the Virgin Mary took the girl to the temple and is celebrated as the Third Veneration.
