Qualcomm has published a teaser of its upcoming chipset announcement, scheduled for 2 April. Analysts speculate that the company will unveil the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, a more affordable version of the flagship processor.
Qualcomm has hinted at a quick announcement of a new chipset by posting a cryptic poster with a date of 2 April. While no official name has been revealed, most experts agree that it will be the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 – a continuation of last year’s 8s Gen 3 line-up.
Unlike the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Elite, the novelty will not get the signature Oryon cores. Instead, the chipset uses proven ARM solutions: one Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.21 GHz, three Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 3.01 GHz, two more clocked at 2.8 GHz and a pair of energy-efficient ones clocked at 2.02 GHz. This approach should strike a balance between performance and cost.
The graphics part will take on Adreno 825. the first tests show that the chipset can score more than 2 million points in AnTuTu. For production is chosen 4-nm TSMC N4P process – the same as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Qualcomm continues its strategy of creating “truncated” versions of flagships. This allows smartphone manufacturers to offer devices with top features at more affordable prices. The official specifications and list of partners will be known in a few days.
