The visit to Kyiv by US President’s Special Envoys Steve Witkopf and Jared Kushner, which had been scheduled for the second half of August, has been “slightly postponed, but not cancelled”, reported Radio Free Europe’s Washington correspondent Alex Raufoglu, citing an informed source.
According to him, the delay is linked to the intensification of missile and drone strikes on Kyiv last week.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty contacted the US Embassy in Kyiv for comment on the possible visit by Donald Trump’s envoys to Ukraine.
At the end of July, Radio Free Europe’s correspondent in Washington, citing two sources, reported that US President Donald Trump’s special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, might visit Kyiv in the second half of August during the events marking the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
US media reported on preparations for such a visit following closed-door talks between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on 28 July.
It was expected that they would explore new ideas for resuming peace talks – an issue that remains one of the White House’s priorities. At the same time, sources noted that the final details of the trip were still being worked out.
On 23 August, the Russian state news agency TASS, citing its own sources, reported that Witkoff and Kushner’s visit to Moscow was also being postponed and was unlikely to take place before the end of August.
