Reports have emerged in Poland of a possible plot against the Prime Minister and the Defence Minister

A real state of alarm has broken out in Poland: an emergency meeting of the security services was convened following the receipt of an alarm signal. It has emerged that a plot was being hatched to assassinate Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. This information was shared on social media by Karolína Halecka, the spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior.

Interior Minister Marcin Kervinsky and the minister responsible for the security services, Tomasz Semoniak, immediately ordered that all necessary measures be taken to ensure the safety of senior officials. Adam Szlapka, the government’s official spokesperson, emphasised that the situation is indeed a cause for serious concern. He explained that Donald Tusk had been informed of the threat in the early hours of Sunday morning, but, as a true leader, he is remaining in Warsaw and continuing to carry out his duties.

Jacek Dobrzyński, a spokesperson for the Minister-Coordinator of the Security Services, told the Polish news agency PAP that he could not yet disclose details regarding the nature of the threat. However, he assured that if a decision were made to hold a press briefing, members of the media would be informed.

It is interesting to note that all this is taking place against the backdrop of a report in the Financial Times, which claims that Russia has stepped up preparations for assassination attempts on European defence leaders. In particular, German counter-intelligence has warned of possible violent acts that could be organised by state bodies or organisations under Russian control. However, the article specifically mentioned defence companies, rather than politicians or public figures.

For now, all we can do is wait for further news, hoping for a peaceful resolution to this tense situation. Poland is certainly ready for action, but for the time being all eyes are on Warsaw, where the Prime Minister continues his work amidst heightened threats.
